| AFF - Level 4 - Updated |
happy, happy, joy joy - its almost the weekend and that means I’m
getting to go jumping. level 4 next - weather and instructors pending.
turns this time, sounds like fun and down to one instructor which also
sounds like fun. yay.
have made the decision I’m not going to get hammered this time... but
I’ll update that at a later date. yay. if i don't post on Monday it
didn't go well. :)
17 September
New day, great, weather, new instructor - Rodger, big guy who's just
back from travelling for 5 years. Timmy is on the manifest first as he
didn't get to do his level 3 jump last visit. Seems to go well -
although he though he had failed - the instructors were both happy so
onto 4 for Tim.
Level four changed slightly, it was originally to be 90o turns, Rodger
decided that we may as well do level 5 twice - 360o turns. Made sense,
he also altered our freefall position by bringing our forearms into 45o
to give us more control. To finish the confusion - he chopped a wave of
as it takes a second longer to do wave, wave - all good.
I do a quick run down on my level 4, and away we go. I wasn't nervous
in the plane this time, even gave a wee good luck and a smile to the
tandems before starting my door count.
Check in, Prop, Up, Down, Arch. Turns out i moved back in the door
again like a turd, and hence turned on the way out. Got stable, and
Roger let go and came around in front of me. Legs, Legs, Legs, Hit
around the head, more legs and better, alti check, turn left, managed
about 90o, stopped it, locked on at 6k, 5k wave, arch, reach, pull.
Great fun canopy ride down, but landed like a tonne of crap.
On the ground the video showed a different story - a crap exit, a good
turn, but my legs were bouncing around all over the place. It appears I
was doing absolutely nothing with them - great! So level 5 again - with
the useful information that if i didn't keep my legs correct Rodger was
going to put them in a cast for me, nice!
Timmy went to do level 4 as I tried to get my head together for my next
jump. Time went on and down he came, walking across to the runway with
an odd face on him I asked him how it went, 'not good' is the nice
version. Good old Timmy had managed to go into a flat spin get a
rugby tackle from Rodger, flip onto his back, recover that - then have
a brain fart and although the video shows time counting down on his
alit - the instructor pulled.
Now we have both had a wee laugh in the past about people that don't
pull their own chutes - seems like a mad idea. Nope, not so much any
more.
Well at this stage I was now nervous. Arse. Level 5 next up.
